Initial response to brief

Upon initially seeing the brief, I was very excited, particularly for the audio-visual part, as I love making short films and videos. The brief also offers a fairly large range of genres and programmes to choose form. I would definitely like to make a fictional TV show, as I find it more enjoyable to make and watch fictional programmes. I also think that it could be hard to 'authentically' make a fictional programme whilst also sticking to the brief and choosing a scene which is a turning point, etc. as you often do not know what will happen when you begin making a fictional programme.

However, having had a look through the TV guides for the two channels, I realised that the selection of dramas on both ITV and (particularly) channel 5 is very limited, and the genres which they tend to work within are also limited. This could, however, play to my advantage as it immediately narrows down my selection of genres and, as most shows fall nicely into a specific genre, I will have lots of potential genre tropes to work with. Additionally, the dramas which are shown on ITV and channel 5 are very mixed in quality, ranging from Emmerdale to Broadchurch, although the low production value of some shows would make them easier to imitate (although may not score the highest marks with the exam board).

With either of these genres, I could easily choose a pivotal moment in the show in order to fit in with the exam specifications. I'm leaning more towards crime at the moment as, although the crime market is over-saturated, there are lots of genre clichés which I can take advantage of and they tend to have much more stylised lighting and camerawork than soap operas.Image result for neighboursImage result for coronation streetRelated image

  1. A good start to your blog. This post could perhaps be a little more detailed - why have you discounted factual programming?
